What is 10-1 Academy?

10-1 Academy is an online training platform designed to primarily help CPD members advance their careers and enhance their professional expertise. Officers from other agencies will be able to enroll in non CPD exam courses. We offer professional development training in key areas including leadership, administrative duties, and other essential skills that support career growth. Our content will include both free resources and comprehensive exam preparation programs, with more offerings coming soon.

Is 10-1 Academy affiliated with the Chicago Police Department?

10-1 Academy is an independent, privately owned company that provides training and educational resources for law enforcement professionals. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Chicago Police Department or the City of Chicago in any way.

I already took Part I, is it too late to join for Part II?

Absolutely not. Our system is designed to pivot immediately to Part II content. You’ll get instant access to the scenario-based training and directive breakdowns most relevant to the upcoming second half of the exam.

How do I get the program or course I want?

To get started, you first need to sign up with your email and create a password.  Once signed up, you will be able to access your "My Academy" and enroll in courses.  Simply click "Enroll" next to the program or course you wish to take. This will direct you to our secure payment platform to complete your purchase, or you will be given access if the course is a free course.


Email Requirements:

  • CPD Exam Prep Programs & courses: Require a verified CPD email address
  • Officer Toolbox & Other Courses: Open to all law enforcement officers with any email address
  • Free Preview Materials: Available to anyone who creates an account

What is the difference between a course and a program?

  • A course is a standalone study class.
  • A program is a comprehensive learning path that combines multiple related courses.

Can I "test-drive" a course to see if it for me?

Yes! We offer free previews so you can evaluate our content before purchasing.  Go to the program or course and you will see lessons available to click on.  The rest of the course is grayed out and enrolling opens access.

How long do I have access to my paid program or course?

Exam Prep Programs: Access is available from purchase through 30 days after the official exam date. Officers who rank high enough for likely promotion can email us for a complimentary extension.

Officer Toolbox: Access is available for one year from your date of purchase with renewal options available at a discounted rate.

Will my progress be saved?

Yes. Your progress is automatically saved and tracked throughout all courses. You can log out at any time and pick up exactly where you left off when you return. 

Are there any requirements to enroll?

Email requirements are the only prerequisites:

  • CPD Exam Prep Courses & Programs: Must use a verified CPD email address

Do I need to sign-up for an account to access material?

Yes. You'll need to create a free account to access our materials, including course previews, sample lessons, and free resources. Creating an account is quick, free, and doesn't require payment information. Payment is only required when you're ready to enroll in full exam prep course, program or other paid courses.

What is the format of 10-1 Academy courses?

All courses are fully online and self-paced, allowing you to study around your work schedule, court appearances, and family commitments. Access your courses 24/7 from any device with internet.  Note: for the best experience, use a PC or Macbook.

CPD Exam Prep Programs & Courses: Structured, step-by-step course modules that follow CPD directives, general orders, and department notices. Each module builds on the previous one to systematically prepare you for exam success.


10-1 Officer Toolbox: A collection of over 270 practical, scenario-based lessons covering real-world law enforcement topics to enhance your street knowledge and on-the-job confidence.

Do you offer refunds?

All sales are final. We encourage you to take advantage of our free preview course lessons and sample materials to ensure our training methods and content meet your needs before purchasing. We stand behind the quality of our materials, which is why we offer extensive free previews. Full refund policy details are outlined in our Terms of Service.

Can I download course materials?

Course materials must be accessed only through our online platform and cannot be downloaded or printed. This ensures you always have the most current version when CPD updates policies or directives, maintains consistent formatting across all devices, and allows us to continuously improve and expand content based on user feedback.

You have unlimited 24/7 access to all your courses for the duration of your enrollment from any device. The platform includes features such as progress tracking, bookmarking, and search functions that wouldn't be available in static downloads. We encourage you to take personal notes while studying to create your own supplementary study materials.

Do you guarantee exam success?

While we cannot guarantee a passing score, promotion, or any specific exam result, we provide comprehensive study resources designed to maximize your chances of success. Your results will depend on your individual effort, study habits, and retention. What we can guarantee is that our materials cover all required CPD directives and exam topics, and that you'll gain valuable knowledge and skills that will benefit your career regardless of exam outcomes.

What Happens if I don't pass my promotional exam?

Many successful officers don’t pass on their first attempt, and that’s okay. We’re here to support your continued preparation.

Your enrollment includes access for one full year after the exam date, giving you the opportunity to revew material if needed.  

Can I use 10-1 Academy on my phone or tablet?

Yes, our platform is fully responsive and works on any device with an internet connection - smartphones, tablets, laptops, or desktop computers. This means you can study during downtime, while on duty (when appropriate), or anywhere you have internet access.


For the best learning experience, especially when taking practice exams or reviewing detailed directives, we recommend using a computer or laptop with a larger screen.

Do you have any recommendations for browser issues?

10-1 Academy works with all modern browsers, but for the best experience we recommend Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge.
